La nueva ola de añil (The New Indigo Wave) follows residents of Oaxacan town Niltepec—whose name means Cerro del Añil or Indigo Hill—and the process of alchemizing the mesmerizing blue pigment known as añil from the jiquilite plant (Indigofera tinctoria).

Maria Laura "Mala" is an actress with little luck, but she is successful working for other women, seducing their boyfriends to know if they are faithful or not. But everything changes when her dream to perform in her acting career depends on a job to be performed with Santiago who breaks the pattern and shakes her professional convictions.

Bogotá, 1980. During the government of President Turbay. An urban cell of the M-19 invades the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, taking 14 ambassadors as hostages. They demand that they be exchanged for political prisoners. The film focuses on the events that took place during those two months of captivity.
